Uttarakhand adopts stricter land laws with Cabinet approval of ‘Bhoo Kanoon’.
• The Uttarakhand Cabinet has given nod to ‘Bhoo Kanoon’ (land laws), which will restrict non-residents from purchasing and selling agricultural/horticulture and residential lands in 11 hill districts.
• The land law amendment Bill is expected to be tabled in the ongoing budget session, set to conclude on February 24.
• Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting citizens’ rights and cultural heritage.
• The law will protect resources, cultural heritage, and rights of the citizens, and preserve the original identity of the province.
• The amended laws will apply a blanket ban on agriculture land purchase in Dehradun, Pauri Garhwal, Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Nainital, Pithoragarh, Champawat, Almora, and Bagshwar districts.
