Violence at the yearly festival in A.P. leaves two dead and over 100 injured

• Two fatalities and over 100 injuries reported at the Banni festival in Devaragattu, Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh.

• The festival, attended by over 200,000 people from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka, included traditional stick fighting rituals.

• Violence erupted during a symbolic ritual, with five individuals in critical condition at Government General Hospital, Adoni.

• The incident occurred during the traditional wedding rituals of deities Mallamma and Malleshwara Swamy, followed by an idol procession.

• Rival groups clashed while trying to seize the idols, armed with bamboo sticks and pestles.

• District Collector A. Siri and Superintendent of Police Vikrant Patil responded to the situation, and medical teams were deployed to assist the injured.
