    “Vitamin D Deficiency: Myths vs Reality” Webinar Summary

    • Experts discuss the epidemic of Vitamin D deficiency in India, highlighting its serious health consequences.

    • The webinar, part of the “Healthy India, Happy India” initiative, was presented by Naruvi Hospitals, Vellore, and The Hindu.

    • Dr. Kurien Thomas, senior consultant physician and clinical epidemiologist at Naruvi Hospitals, highlighted that 40% to 90% of Indians are deficient.

    • Dr. Thomas emphasized the role of vitamin D in bone health and calcium absorption.

    • He recommended mid-day sun exposure and dietary inclusion of certain foods.

    • D. Aneesh Basheer called for targeted screening and fortified food options.

    • Pranita Vanjare highlighted the vitamin’s role in regulating blood pressure, reducing inflammation, and potentially lowering the risk of Type 1 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, respiratory infections, and certain cancers.
