  • Volcanoes erupt why?

    • High temperature and pressure melt mantle and crust, forming magma.

    • Magma rises and pools in subterranean reservoirs due to its less dense nature.

    • As magma ascends, volatile compounds like water vapor, carbon dioxide, and sulphur dioxide escape, forming bubbles that increase internal pressure.

    • Fractures and faults in the crust release this pressure, causing magma surges and gas expansion.

    • If a rock bottleneck stops magma, it can create low-frequency seismic waves.

    • Volcanoes are active if they are erupting or will soon, and some, like Uturuncu in Bolivia, emit gases and trigger earthquakes.

    • Recent research reveals gases are collecting in magma chambers beneath Uturuncu’s crater, indicating it’s unlikely to erupt soon.
