WBCS Exam 2025 New Syllabus – Official WBPSC Notification

The Public Service Commission, West Bengal (WBPSC) has officially announced a major update regarding the West Bengal Civil Service (Executive) etc. Examination (WBCS Exam 2025). As per the latest notice, the new scheme and syllabus introduced under Notification No. 695-PAR (WBCS)/1D-179 (Part-II) dated 17.06.2025 will come into effect from the WBCS 2025 examination onwards.

Key Highlights of the Notice

• The WBCS Exam 2024 will be conducted as per the old syllabus and scheme (Notification No. 437-PAR (WBCS)/1D-389/13 dated 27.02.2014).
• The revised scheme and syllabus will be implemented starting from WBCS 2025.
• Aspirants appearing for WBCS 2025 onwards must prepare according to the new exam pattern.

WBCS New Syllabus 2025 – What Changes?

As per earlier updates from the Government of West Bengal, the Preliminary Examination will now consist of a single General Studies paper of 200 marks, having 200 multiple-choice questions with a 2.5-hour duration. The paper will cover:

1. English Composition – 25 Marks
2. General Science – 25 Marks
3. Current Affairs (National & International) – 25 Marks
4. History of India – 25 Marks
5. Geography of India (with special reference to West Bengal) – 25 Marks
   (Other parts of the new syllabus will be detailed in the WBPSC guidelines for 2025 Mains & Interview.)

What This Means for Aspirants

• WBCS 2024 Candidates – Continue preparing with the existing syllabus. No changes will affect this year’s examination.
• WBCS 2025 Candidates – Start aligning your preparation with the revised pattern, focusing on a single General Studies-based Prelims.

Please note – WBCS Exam 2025 means the notification name “WBCS 2025”, not the actual date of exam which may be held on a later year. Age criteria will be calculated as per 1st January of the exam year as in PSC notification, which is 01.01.2025 for “WBCS 2025 Exam”.
