WBCS 2025 Gazette Notification By West Bengal government reverting to existing MCQ pattern syllabus, which is called old pattern is available here for download.

The Government of West Bengal, Personnel and Administrative Reforms Department (WBCS Cell) has issued Notification No. 695-PAR(WBCS)/1D-179(Part-II) dated 17.06.2025, introducing major amendments to the WBCS Recruitment Rules, 1978. These changes redefine the scheme and syllabus of the West Bengal Civil Service (Executive) Examination from WBCS 2025 onwards.

Key Highlights of the WBCS New Syllabus 2025

• Preliminary Examination will now consist of one paper only – General Studies.
• The paper will carry 200 marks, have 200 multiple-choice questions, and a duration of 2.5 hours.
• Standard: Graduate level of a recognized University.
• Subjects included in the Prelims Syllabus:
  1. English Composition – 25 Marks
  2. General Science – 25 Marks
  3. Current Events (National & International) – 25 Marks
  4. History of India – 25 Marks
  5. Geography of India with special reference to West Bengal – 25 Marks
     (Further divisions of syllabus will be detailed in the official document.)

Why This Matters for Aspirants

This marks no significant shift in the WBCS exam pattern announced just few months back, as the Prelims is now again simplified into a single General Studies paper. Aspirants appearing from 2025 onwards must align their preparation with this revised structure, while those targeting WBCS 2024 will continue under the old syllabus. This is basically same as 2013 notification, as per which notification 2014-2023 were held and also 2024.

The WBCS 2025 syllabus change is a landmark update that aspirants cannot ignore. Candidates should start preparing according to the new exam pattern while also keeping an eye on upcoming detailed syllabus and Main examination structure from WBPSC.

Please note – WBCS Exam 2025 means the notification name “WBCS 2025”, not the actual date of exam which may be held on a later year. Age criteria will be calculated as per 1st January of the exam year as in PSC notification, which is 01.01.2025 for “WBCS 2025 Exam”.
