  • West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Calls for Stopping Bengali-Speaking Targeting

    • Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, has condemned the harassment, persecution, and illegal deportation of Bengali-speaking people by the BJP governments in various states.

    • Banerjee cites Human Rights Watch (HRW) as a source of information, stating that Bengali-speaking Indians are being arbitrarily abused and pushed out by the BJP.

    • HRW reports that the targeting of migrants is systematically occurring in the BJP-ruled states of Assam, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, and Delhi.

    • Banerjee’s remarks come amid calls for a “language movement” to protest against the targeting of migrants from West Bengal in BJP-ruled states.
