• Tata Motors Group, a car and SUV producer, inaugurated its new production facility at the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu Limited (SIPCOT) industrial park in Ranipet district, Tamil Nadu.
• The park is the 50th of its kind in Tamil Nadu and the 27th of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government.
• SIPCOT was established in 1971 to promote industrial growth in Tamil Nadu, focusing on medium and large scale industries.
• The first industrial park was established in Ranipet in 1973, with the land extent for the first phase being 729.79 acres.
• SIPCOT has developed two industrial parks – Ranipet and Hosur – focusing on leather, chemicals, and pharma industries, and automobiles and the general engineering sector.
• The park has been instrumental in the establishment and growth of 3,290 industrial units with a cumulative investment of about ₹1.85 lakh crore over the past 53 years, generating over 8.20 lakh job opportunities.
• SIPCOT is also promoting sector-specific industrial parks, providing affordable and sustainable housing for industrial workers, and managing water.
• SIPCOT Industrial Innovation Centres (SIIC) have been established in SIPCOT industrial parks at Hosur and Sriperumbudur, envisioned as world-class incubation centres capable of nurturing and accelerating industrial innovations and technology-powered startups.
