Zubeen Garg’s Funeral in Assam

• Assam’s iconic singer-composer, Zubeen Garg, was cremated with State honours in Kamarkuchi village, Sonapur.

• Tens of thousands of fans followed the ambulance and lined the highway between Guwahati and Sonapur.

• Garg’s body was kept at the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex for over 48 hours after arriving from Singapore via New Delhi.

• Fans sang “Mayabini” in unison, with Garg’s sister Palme Borthakur and music composer Rahul Gautam Sarma lighting the pyre amid gun salutes.

• A second autopsy was conducted on Garg’s body, with drowning as the cause of death.

• The State government decided on the second autopsy following a demand from fans who suspected Garg was made to go swimming despite doctors’ instructions.
