CRS data: Bihar sex ratio declines from 964 to 891 in two years.
• Bihar recorded the lowest sex ratio at birth for 2022 among all States and Union Territories, with 891 girls born for every 1,000 boys.
• The state has consistently seen its sex ratio at birth (SRB) declining since 2020.
• Other states with the lowest SRB include Maharashtra, Telangana, and Gujarat.
• Nagaland had the highest SRB for 2022 at 1,068, followed by Arunachal Pradesh, Ladakh, Meghalaya, and Kerala.
• Assam reported the lowest SRB for 2021 at 863, which spiked in 2022.
• The government released data from the Civil Registration System (CRS), Sample Registration System (SRS), and Medical Cause of Certification of Causes of Deaths (MCCD) for 2022.
• The 2022 CRS report registered a total of 86.5 lakh deaths, closer to the total for 2019, the year before the pandemic.
• The number of registered births increased across the country, with 254.4 lakh births registered compared to the previous year.
• The share of males in total registered births was 52.4%, while females were 47.6%.
